Seeking Case Studies: Social Media Successes

August 20, 2008 by Kristie Wells

We would like to put together a list of ‘case studies’ of companies around the world (large and small) who have adopted a Social Media strategy and, here’s the kicker, successfully taken action on their plan.

It may not have been a completely smooth path for them to walk down, but they are making strides and their internal and external communities are all the better for it.

Who should we make sure is included in this list and why (short summary please)? And feel free to toot your own horn if you are proud of what you are doing.

I think a great example of a company using Social Media is Whole Foods Market. They have a blog, profiles on MySpace Youtube, Flickr and Twitter. I particularly like the WFM use of social media because they really do maximize the use of each site. They are productive, interactive and not overbearing (meaning: my inbox isn’t follded with “hey look at me posts” as is often the case with other companies…) Their presence, quality of media production and approach is really in keeping with their high quality and socially conscious brand.

    That’s just my 2 cents…

    Thanks

Sabre implemented a social network, called SabreTown, for its employees almost a year ago. Within 3 months, 65% of the 9,000 Sabre employees were using SabreTown. The results we are seeing have been outstanding. When a user posts a question to the employee community on SabreTown, 60% of the time they receive an answer within one hour and we have collected more than one hundred “success stories” where employees have benefited from the community. The secret is the development of an environment that all employees are comfortable using, not just those tech-savvy employees who use social networking every day. Based on our experience with SabreTown, we are now licensing the same social network as a product called cubeless and finding similar results with our first few companies on the platform.
