This was BIG FUN and I think there was some excitement to it that hopefully got more than just me excited! Thank you Deb for your vote of confidence, it really means a lot! And I know I'll participate even if I can't be on the board - social media is all about sharing and collaboration, is it not! Huge congrats to all three of you, and I'm amazed that I got so close despite being such small fry. Rock On!!

Thanks to Chris, the other super smart/cool/savvy 41, and all the folks that took the time to vote for me.

Also, congrats to Coach Deb and Chris Hambly (no "e"). I look forward to working with you both along with the rest of the board.

Best,
Aaron | @astrout

Congratulations to all. Granted I wasn't in the top 3, but for a Canuck I wasn't last :)

Note that I'm able to help in any capacity that I can.

WOW!

How cool that Aaron and I had the power to "persuade" the board backed by our loyal tribe who supported us via social media.

I humbly accept the nomination & plan to make a continued contribution of the people by the people in regards to social media.

{Acceptance Speech here}

Thank you all for your support & helping to get the word out about this Social Media Club via "social media".

The love and support and campaigning for me by my tribe has overwhelmed me so much that I'm adding this entire "social media experience" in the Twitter Handbook so others may learn the power of social media.

Interesting note:
While I was tempted to send an email out to my list of clients, I never did because I wanted to keep this an experiment of just how much could be influenced through social media alone. Namely - one source - Twitter.

It taught me so much that, win or lose, I planned on writing a post on my blog about it over on http://TribalSeduction.com I'll work on it over the weekend, b/c I have MUCH to say b/c - quite frankly - I've learned SO much all throughout the process.

Thanks to Aaron for really making me "work for it". I enjoyed my lead on the 1st day while it lasted, and glad it motivated those who really wanted this position to get out there and work for it.

And if I may offer one more attempt at persuading the board - to bring on a 45th member as: Maddie Grant. She sure worked it - telling me - she knows how to move social media. That's impressive in my book.

PS: I've also met a lot of fantastic new friends through this process - namely Chris & Aaron as they responded to comments & sent me DM's on Twitter.

Those of you who I haven't met yet - send me an @ msg so I can be sure to add you on TWitter

Well done Chris,

Also, congratulations to all, I'm looking forward this, and more importantly, meeting the "tribe" virtually and physically.

Also, I have no "e" in my name, though a common mistake.

Lucy - we didnt close the comments on the previous post.

You are right though, there are so many people doing great work in social media around the world - many of which don't have time to contribute. So how do you choose 3 of them to serve on a board? How do you choose 12? Should we choose 3 or 12 or 15 or 41 or 44? Who has the power to choose? you? me? Why sets the rules and who corrects the rules when they are not working in an emergent organization that is in transition?

Any person doing good work in social media has friends here who will be glad to help them move their good work forward. Armchair quarterbacks have great perspective when things are said and done but not much to contribute to the process of leading, of risking something or of trying to do something and realizing you made some mistakes.

Lucy, I am sorry we disappointed you by listening to other members of the community who have a differing opinion than you, but I am not sorry for the choices made or the fact that we have a good result.

BTW - I am keeping my word here - I asked all along (in each post or the comments) for suggestions on improving the process and I heard them and we improved the process.

Have you closed the comments on the previous post? I couldn't post there so posted here instead.

Good to see someone not just from the US/Canada voted in.

Such a shame that it became a trivial voting process with people tweeting and sending people over to vote for one of the nominees.

It really took away from the potential influence and reputation of the Social Media Club with people voting for people based on someone having friends who Tweet for you and not on real merit or the contribution they are making at the moment in the world of social media.

No wonder some of the significant influencers in social media did not put themselves forward. There are so many people I can think of making a contribution to social media across the globe but why on earth would they want to put their name forward and ten be embarrassed with few voters.

And as for then moving the goal posts to not just having 1 person nominated but 3 - well that sums up the process as a sham.

Whatever we say about the US Presidential elections at least they are more robust than this process.

How disappointing.
