SMC-DC Features WhyGoSolo: More Than Bridging Your Online and Offline Worlds
March 28, 2008
Please join us for our next Social Media Club DC (SMC-DC) event on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 pm. We will gather at Viget Labs to hear some insight from Ann Bernard, Founder and CEO of WhyGoSolo.
Ann will show us how a local start-up company has created a social media platform that leverages the web from one click of a button. WhyGoSolo has the solution to bridge our online worlds to offline real world connections but that’s only a small part of the story. The more involved and complex social media becomes, the more critical it is to keep it simple and user-friendly for both businesses and web users to leverage. Ann will explain more about the key factors of creating a platform that is fully integrated in everyone’s online worlds and that works has a hub of information that gathers and delivers information where people want to receive it and view it.
This is a fabulous opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at the perspective of a web start-up CEO and how to develop a platform that is built to meet the social media needs of event promoters, planners and entertainment venues.

March 20, 2008
This morning 40+ folks interested in SocialMedia converged on Sears Fine Food for an early morning networking experiment overseen by the Social Media Connector extraordinare, Jeff Pulver.
Jeff has put together a toolkit to jump start conversations by taking an online tool (tagging) and bringing it into an offline format to help people meet one another through a very basic exercise. It’s beauty is in its simplicity.
This idea epitimizes everything we love about Social Media as it shows what the tools can do to help connect people - both online AND offline (muy importante to build relationships in both realms). It is something we have believed in and promoted for some time now, and we are extremely happy to see Jeff ‘productize’ it to give it a giant push forward.
Thank you Jeff and everyone who came out this morning.

F2C: Freedom to ConnectDC is coming to DC this March 31 and April 1. F2C is a meeting of people engaged with Internet connectivity and all that it enables, including vendors, customers, regulators, legislators, analysts, financiers, citizens and co-creators. This year, the theme of F2C is how universal connectivity and the plunging capital requirements of information production are changing our fundamental economic and social assumptions.
Keynotes are from:

- Tom Evslin, founder ITXC, founder AT&T WorldNet, blogger, author, telecom activist.

Normally this event costs $1195. But there’s a Late Majority Price of $750 in effect now. Social Media Club members (and friends) can get an additional $50 discount by registering here. BTW, did we mention it was at the super hip Silver Theatre?

Social Media Breakfast in San Francisco
March 17, 2008
It looks like we are going to have a good turn out on Thursday morning for the Social Media Breakfast, but we would love to see you there too. Jeff Pulver will be in town as our host / guest / leader which makes this quite a special event. If you didn’t see it, there was this great article on the event and Jeff’s Social Networking Toolkit in Fortune a few weeks ago called “Geography, social media and breakfast.” Of course, Jeff has done a great job further expanding on an idea Bryan Person started last August in Boston.
Please do register for the Social Media Breakfast on Eventbrite if you are planning on coming so we can have a decent head count. Breakfast is at the “world famous” Sears Diner by Union Square in San Francisco, where we will be meeting downstairs… A big thanks to Cathryn Hrudicka of Creative Sage for helping to put this together with Jeff, and for being such a strong supporter in our community.
This is exactly the sort of thing we want to promote more of through Social Media Club, and was one of the community events we spoke about bringing into what we called the “Coalition of the Willing” at SxSW last week (more on that soon).
