SMC PHILLY HAS A NEW HOME
SMC Philly has found a new home for their meetings, at local co-working space Indy Hall in Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood. The club’s last meeting, on December 10, was invigorated by guests Geoff Livingston (SMC D.C. member) and Brian Williams from Viget Labs. Geoff led a group discussion related to content from his new best-selling social media book, Now is Gone, which he cultivated into a larger discussion about the hot topic of that week: Facebook’s Beacon.
SMC Philly was delighted to have Geoff and Brian visit and hopes that member friends from other chapters will get in touch if they are visiting Philly. Members from SMC Philly will be at SXSWi and look forward to the Austin Meet-up!
Email Annie Heckenberger or Twitter annierocks for more information about the SMC Philly chapter.

Social Media Club NYC meeting 1/15/08
January 16, 2008
Last night’s SMC New York meeting featured yours truly as a moderator for a panel with Peter Shankman and Andrew Weinreich, talking about Social Networks.

Over 70 people attended this meeting, with some enthusiastic networking both before and after the event.
Steve Eisenberg put up this audio of the event and these photos.
Les Blatt put up this review of the Future of Social Networking panel on his site. Les’ point is accurate, that the panel ended up being very framed in terms of the Social Networking giant of the moment, Facebook. What’s clear to me, and what came out in the panel, is that leaders are always replaced, but what we’re learning from people’s use of Facebook about people’s behavior is the key takeway of the current web era.
