I was thinking about “The Cult of the Amateur” and Andrew Keen when I made this video about gatekeepers. I read Milton’s essay many years ago in graduate school, but I realized he was really talking (in 1644) about the same issues — censorship by editing and licensing. For social media as well as for citizen journalism, these become important issues.
