Barry makes a good point. The differentiation creates a divide. It's like the old racism in our country not too long ago...as if "social or Internet" Communicators have to drink from a different water fountain or something. Kooky. I welcome the day when a Business Communications Professional (which is what I call myself) will naturally include a web skill set.

I think there is a need for differentiation, but there is a huge section of communicators that dislike "internet" or "social media"

Over on the MyRagan.com site for instance, Strumpette loves throwing stones at anyone who has anything to do with social media. While that is just a persona, there are a good number of folk in the PR realm who are scared of social media.

Sometimes I feel like I am flying the flag of the new world order or something. I am proud to take the pot-shots and the critics on full-force and head on, and it seems like saying I am "different" that saying you are willing to embrace the technology sets you apart from the pack (in both good and bad ways)
