[...] So this is what I mean by ‘Club’ - a group of people who trust each other and are able to work together beyond the walls of their organizations, and connecting as independents within our growing global neighborhood. Together we can not only help each other be successful with our work, but reduce our expenses and have fun. [...]

I'm relieved that you are referring to that kind of a "club." I was fearful you meant the kind you use to clobber someone.

Interesting that Mike was thinking along the same lines I was (as I worked on this post between work tasks). Along my point, I do not have the same lens of looking back at an "open forum" of youth, so that example is a bit foreign.

Regardless, I think it is interesting that the text from M-W I copied did not appear, just as must have happened with Chris' copy and paste.

You left off that interesting and arguably dated reference from M-W, "."

Interesting how we make assumptions, especially in interpretation of terms and word usage! I think you explained the term very well, Chris, and took it in a different direction than I initially had in mind. When I think of the term "club," I think of those groups of kids who meet after school for some informal function, such as the golf club or the chess club. I usually do not think of the "club" in an exclusive way, though I see how others can.

I wonder how often this occurs with social media, especially since facial expressions and vocal tones are not always readily available.

I like the term club. It reminds me of sitting around with neighbors when I was a kid in an open forum. After attending the San Francisco Social Media club it reinforced that notion. We sat around and talked openly.
Just dont add "Country" in front of the club.

When is the next SF Social Media club meeting?
